Welcome to our brand new golf website! Whether you are a top golfer, a club golfer, an occasional golfer, or a complete hacker, one thing is for sure, we are all avid golfers. We keep coming back, time and time again to experience a great round, a birdie or two, or in many cases that rare feeling of a shot coming right out of the middle and flying down the fairway as if hit by a professional.
Here at our brand new golf website, Golf from my Armchair, we understand that golf is more than just a sport, it is a passion, a way of life, and a community. That’s why we’ve designed this site to cater to all levels of golfers, from beginners to seasoned pros.
We also know that golf is more than just about the game. It’s also about the people you meet and your experiences on the course. So, we will spend much of our time finding stories that may not have been so obviously reported and certainly not discussed. The unusual, bizarre, emotional, and downright hilarious, without neglecting the amazing feats and performances of our top, global stars.
So, what can you expect?
Tournament Results
Of course. No golf website would be complete without bringing the previous week’s results together all in one place.
So, what has been happening in the last 7 days?
The Honda Classic
This is the latest tournament on the USPGA Tour and was won by Chris Kirk, after a playoff with Eric Cole.
It was held at the PGA National Champion Course at Palm Beach Gardens, in Florida. This has been the venue for the Honda Classic since 2007 and is considered one of the toughest tests on the PGA tour calendar.
Well done Chris. He was right up there from the moment he shot a fantastic 8 under, 62 in the 2nd round.
Do we think Chris could go on to win a major this year? Well, The Masters is coming up in April. It may be a little too soon meaning Chris may have to wait for one of the other majors coming up later in the year. Time will tell. He is certainly in form at the right time. Let me know what you think.
The Indian Open
This was the latest offering from the DP World Tour (previously The European Tour). Congratulations must go out to Marcel Siem who won the event by one shot from Yannik Paul, after waiting 8 years since his previous victory. That makes 5 victories now on the DP World Tour for Siem. Could his next be a major? I don’t think so but I have been wrong before, well most of the time actually!
The tournament was held at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, Haryana. It boasts a Gary Player redesigned course playing as a par 72.
The Honda LPGA Thailand Open
Yes, of course, I will be including content from the world of Ladies’ golf too. Why wouldn’t I?
The Honda Thailand Open was the latest offering from the LPGA.
Last time out we saw the resurgent Lydia Ko winning but this time she could not repeat that feat with Lilia Vu of the United States winning by one shot from Natthakritta Vongtaveelap. Well done Lilia. She was ranked 33rd in the world before the start of this tournament, so will definitely be on the rise. One to keep an eye on I think.
The tournament was held at the Siam Country Club, Bangkok.
LIV Golf event in Mexico
Now, I’m not sure whether you are a fan of the new LIV Golf series. Personally, I’m not but however, it is golf and as such, will get its fair share of mentions here.
The 1st event of the season was held at El Camaleón Golf Course in Mayakoba, Mexico.
It was won by Charles Howell III by 4 shots from Peter Uihlein.
It was certainly a fantastic weekend for Howell, pocketing a cool $4m for winning the title and a 4th share of $1m ($250,000) for his Crushers GC winning the team event. Take that to the bank!!!
LIV has split the world of golf since bursting onto the scene just over a year ago so, we would be really interested to hear what your thoughts are. Do you think it is here to stay? Should world ranking points be awarded for their events? What about qualification for the Ryder Cup?
This is something we will return to many times over the coming months, I’m sure so please, let’s get the debate going down below.
Coming Up
It’s all go on tour this coming week with the following events happening:
- Ladies European Tour – Joburg Ladies Open to be held at Modderfontein GC, Johannesburg.
- USLPGA Tour – Women’s World Championship to be held at Sentosa GC, Singapore.
- USPGA – Arnold Palmer Invitational to be held at Bay Hill GC and Lodge, near Orlando, Florida.
- USPGA – Puerto Rico Open to be held at The Grand Reserve GC, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
- LIV Golf Series – No event this week.
So, plenty to be getting our teeth into over the next 7 days.
Personally, I’m getting quite excited about the Arnold Palmer Invitational, this week. It is boasting a stacked field of many of the top 20 players in the world.
I have just cast my eye over the start list and players of the calibre of Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, last week’s winner Chris Kirk and so many others are competing.
Jon Rahm grabbed the world No. 1 spot from Scottie Scheffler just over a week ago, who in turn had taken it from Rory McIlroy the previous week. Who will be sitting at the top of the pile after this shootout? I’m sure whatever happens, it will be hugely exciting and will probably go right down to the wire. Don’t worry, we will have the winners here, all in one place.
The last mention for now goes to the ladies. They are in Singapore for the latest event on the LPGA Tour. Their start list is just as stacked as the men’s, so I think we can expect a highly entertaining and eventful battle in Singapore. I wish I was there.
So, it is prediction time, who will be coming out on top?
Let me know below.
