Weekend Golf Results – From Around the World

Hey, there fellow hackers!

We have a full listing of events this week.  DP World Tour, USPGA, and LIV.  However special mention to the Ladies.  It is their 1st major Championship of the season with the Chevron Championships. If you are not going to be there in person, I suggest you order the pizza and get yourself in front of the TV, in your favourite armchair, of course.

Tournament Results

LOTTE Championships

The LOTTE Championships was the latest stop off for the Ladies on the LPGA Tour, held at Hoakalei Country Club, Hawaii.

We had a 1st time winner this year in only her 3rd start on the LPGA Tour.  Take a bow, Grace Kim.  The Australian prevailed in a 3 way playoff against Yu Jin Sung of South Kora and Yu Liu of China.

They were all tied on -12 after 72 holes and Grace holed a tricky 5 foot birdie putt to take the title.

What a way to take your 1st ever victory on Tour and in only your 3rd start.  I think this shows tremendous courage and nerve and could signal the start of a great career for Kim,

RBC Heritage

This was the 1st main PGA event following the Masters.

It was a strong field with last week’s major winner Jon Rahm playing along with Scottie Scheffler.  Many other top players were present with the biggest absentee being Rory McIlroy.  He pulled out just after missing the cut at the US Masters.  Interestingly we do not know the circumstances yet as he gave no interviews after Augusta and the reason for his withdrawal is unknown.  More to come here perhaps

The event came right down the stretch with US Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick battling Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay for the title.

It came down to the last where Jordan Spieth narrowly missed out on defending the title he won last year.  Cantlay missed out by a single shot with Fitzpatrick tied on -17 with Spieth and heading off on a sudden death playoff.  The playoff would ultimately last 3 holes, held in a raucous Ryder Cup style atmosphere.  Fitzpatrick finally saw off Spieth with a magnificent 9 iron to tap in range for a birdie.  What a climax!

Although the reigning US Open Champion, this was the 1st regular PGA title for Fitzpatrick.  Somehow, I don’t think it will be his last.  Well done Matt.

The event was held at the Harbour Town Golf Links, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Coming Up

All go on tour this coming week with the following events happening:

  • USPGA – Zurich Classic of New Orleans, held at TPC Louisiana, Avondale, Louisiana.
  • DP World Tour – ISPS Handa Championship, held at PGM Ishioka Golf Club, Omitama, Japan.
  • LPGA Tour – The Chevron Championships, held at Carlton Woods, The Woodlands, Texas. 1ST MAJOR of the year for the ladies.
  • LIV Golf Tour – Adelaide, held at The Grange Golf Club, Adelaide, Australia.

Final Thoughts

Ok, so last week the men had the limelight with the US Masters.  This week it is the turn of the ladies.  They have their 1st Major out of 5 with the Chevron Championships.

There will be a full field and I am getting pretty excited at the prospect, I must say.

I’m not sure who to put my money on, to be honest.  We undoubtedly will see the likes of world No. 1 Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda Jin Young Ko, and a whole host of others in contention.  It is very open I believe.  Who are your picks for the victory?  Let us know in the comments below.

As I am from England I want to give a shout out to Georgia Hall.  Already a major winner and has been showing some excellent recent form, without actually winning.  Maybe this could be her time to add to her major tally.  We will see.

I’m going to leave this one here because I really can’t seem to make my mind up on who will be in contention.  Grace Kim, anyone?  Now wouldn’t that be a story?

On to the men.  Second week back on the regular PGA Tour.  I just want to point out that my man, Sam Burns is still putting in consistent finishes this season.  He tied for 15th in the RBC on -11.  I still believe there could be a 1st major on the horizon for him.  However, you would be a fool to look beyond Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm.  I’m not sure what is going on with Rory McIlroy but if everything is ok, he will certainly feature as well.

As far as the DP World Tour is concerned, the wins have been shared around so far.  I will be keeping a closer eye on them this week to see if anyone is going to break out and make the step up.

The LIV Tour is back again this week.  This time they are in Adelaide.  Now I have to say, I have not been a lover of LIV so far although I will admit, I haven’t given it much of a chance yet.  However, after the strong showing of Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson at the US Masters last week, I feel slightly warmer toward it.  Enough at least to take more of an interest.

I just want to say, wasn’t Phil Mickelson swinging the club well in the Masters?  His action seems as loose and fluid as ever and I believe he still has it in him to trouble the best.  I just hope the LIV Tour provides enough competition to hone the competitive juices and skills needed to win at the very top.  Brooks and Phil suggest the answer may be yes.

Whatever happens over in Oz, you will find the results right here on Golf from my Armchair.

Don’t forget to leave any comments below.  We would be especially interested to hear your stories of how you watched the events.  Let us know your tips for the majors.  I keep banging on about mine, we would like to learn who you think is going to break through.

I look forward to seeing you back here next week for more Golf Results from around the World.
