I believe this product is a very strong contender if you are just starting out in the game and don’t want to spend a ton of money before you know whether you will stick with it for the long term.
Certainly, coming in at under £ 200 it provides everything you need in terms of holding a full set of clubs and all the other necessary items, such as balls, tees, sweaters, and rain weather gear.
What exactly do you get?
Well, a golf bag, of course. But a good one at that from a top brand.
Callaway came up with a bag that has been in their range for a while now. It is not difficult to understand why because they have provided a bag that is light but large enough to contain everything you will need. Especially as a beginner.
It weighs in at around 2.3kg (5lbs) which is nothing really. However, durability has not been compromised as reported by many who have used the bag for an extended period.
No problem fitting a full set in there. It also has dividers which allow you to keep all your clubs neatly arranged so you can find your 6 iron in a second without having to rummage through everything only to find it was where you were looking in the first place.
On a personal note, I can mix up all my clubs regardless of how many dividers I have. I hope I am the exception to the rule, but dividers do help. It is worth noting here, the dividers are full length, which allows the smooth retrieval and replacement of clubs without grips getting stuck together.
You get 6 pockets which are large enough to accommodate everything you will need for your round, including an insulated compartment for your water bottle. Also plenty of space for all the extra balls you may need if you find yourself having a particularly bad day. However, let’s not dwell on that.
A rather nice touch is you get a velour lined pocket for your valuables.
The stand itself is sturdy and works simply and without fuss. The last thing you want is for your bag to be falling down when you want it to stand up and fail to close when you want to walk on quickly. You will find the Callaway Golf Chev well up to the task.
On top of all that, if it rains, there is a rain cover as well as an umbrella loop for when it stops.
It also comes in several colour options.
So, to the “Pros” and “Cons”
Pros
- Lightweight – approx 2.3kg (5lbs).
- Full length club dividers for ease of club withdrawal and replacement. Also, great for keeping them organised.
- Good quality manufactured by a top brand. Compares more than favourably with its competition.
- Enough space to fit everything you would need for your cheeky round.
- Great value at the price.
Cons
- Some say it could do with a little more back padding to add extra comfort when carrying.
- Can be slightly awkward to organise when loading onto a push cart/trolley. However, it is a carry bag, remember.
- The pockets are a little thin. However, I would say, you can’t have everything, especially if you are looking for a lightweight bag.
Conclusion
When I look for value for money, good quality bags for an occasional player or beginner, there are several out there. However, for a branded bag at the cost range available, I think you would be hard pressed to find something better value than the Callaway Golf Chev Stand Bag.
